As a DStv Explora user, combined with Premium subscriptions, I was opportune to watched several series of blockbuster movies, hire or rent latest 2018 movies and watch them in HD format from the comforts of my home.
But in 2018, a lot of things went wrong. Everything started since the FIFA 2018 World Cup ended, with France crowned as the Winners. I love watching several matches online, PL, Champions League, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and many others.
Of course, Football is entertaining, but since DSTv decided to stop showing some league and cup matches such as Carabao Cup, FA Cup, and Europa Cup, I was barely left with no choice than to leave their service and change to another station. After the first match of Chelsea in Europa cup, and DStv failed to display it, users racked Twitter, laying different complains and curses.
Premium subscribers like us are actually flying away from the platform, and the reason isn’t only left to the removal of some soccer football but due to the high competition packages from Netflix.
Sorry, but the declining of subscribers didn’t start in 2018, but since the year, 2015, which is popularly known as President Buhari inauguration year. And also, it is not just Premium subscribers leaving the platform, lower-end subscribers does this too.
– 31 March 2018 showed that DStv lost 41,000 Premium subscribers by Naspers
– Between 2016 – 2017, they lost 135,000 DStv Premium subscribers
– Between April 2015 – March 2016, they lost 255,000 premium subscribers.
DSTv made it known that the prices for their Premium subscribers will increase, starting from 1st of September, which am sure few people did not have issue with but the removal of some matches does. However, from 31st of October 2018, Channel 127 and 128 (Sony Entertainment TV and Sony Max) will be removed.
Guess what, subscribers will still leave the platform for another Pay-TV in Nigeria, which offers their packages and for a limited amount of currencies.
