Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger now restored after 6hours of outage

For up to 6hours, Facebook’s ecosystem, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Oculus including the parent company, Facebook were all down and it was a difficult moment for everyone out there. When Facebook goes down, all of a sudden, it seems as though, the internet is down for some weird reason.

While you are unable to either send or receive messages on WhatsApp, Instagram keeps flashing a 5xx Server Error message, including its virtual reality, where users on Oculus couldn’t load installed games, while the Facebook site merely told us that something went wrong.

Close to 2hours, the sunset with Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp and was definitely a heartbreaking moment. It is no news that most people use Facebook to check internet connection, for primary users tho, but WhatsApp is actually the worst here.

Well, one can cope with Facebook and Instagram going down for few minutes (not hours), but WhatsApp down for a moment is heart-wrecking and worst. We all know that WhatsApp outage is a huge problem for the people whose businesses rely on it (WhatsApp status).

WhatsApp hits 2billion users last year, with up to 400 million unique monthly users in India and this is close to Facebook’s 2.5billion users. Within a short period of time, WhatsApp became the default method to reach out to Friends, Family, via message/voice and video calls.

For a couple of hours, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger services were down, faced a disruption in their backend services but thanks to the engineering team over at Facebook (tedious work tho), the services were restored yesterday.

The outage started just before noon ET. But as expected, the tantrum did create an internet spectacle as loads of people flocked to other services like Twitter with funny tweets and memes. Even Jack Dorsey, CEO of the Microblogging platform, Twitter shared a tweet:

    Facebook down by Twitter Jack

However, this outage is reportedly the worst outage for Facebook since the 2019 incident took its site offline for more than 24 hours. Facebook says it doesn’t believe any user data was impacted, but this outage will definitely affect small businesses and creators.

With respect to the service breakage, Facebook issued an explanation on Monday evening, saying that it was due to a configuration issue. The company went ahead and explain a few issues:

Our engineering teams have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data centers caused issues that interrupted this communication. This disruption to network traffic had a cascading effect on the way our data centers communicate, bringing our services to a halt.

Apologies to everyone who hasn’t been able to use WhatsApp today. We’re starting to slowly and carefully get WhatsApp working again.

Thank you so much for your patience. We will continue to keep you updated when we have more information to share.

That is not the only funny tweet, Jack was involved in. He also asked for the price of Facebook tho:

    Facebook domain is for sale

However, when users flocked Twitter, following the outage of Facebook’s ecosystem, the microblogging platform service was threatened but the company was swift to provide a quick fix. For a short period of time, and were also down.
