Huawei P50 Pocket comes with 6.9-inch FHD+ 120 Hz foldable screen and a small external display

    Another stunning foldable screen Smartphone – HUAWEI P50 Pocket officially announced with a large 6.9-inch foldable flexible screen and another small 1.04-inch AMOLED external screen. The new Huawei P50 Pocket uses a clamshell-folding technique.

    The Huawei P50 Pocket was launched at an event in China, and due to the US sanctions, the P50 Pocket won’t be coming out of China, as the company is barred from using key tech like Google’s Android OS. But it is the company’s first foldable flip phone in China.

    Let’s start from the back panel, the P50 Pocket is available in Obsidian Black color with a shiny mirror texture, Diamond White with premium shimmer on micro-glass with a 3D micro-sculpture design, and a premium gold color model.

    The HUAWEI P50 Pocket Gold Premium Edition is available, thanks to the collaboration with Haute Couture designer Iris Van Herpen, which features organically flowing patterns in a stunning gold tone. And it weighs 190g, which is the weight of normal phones out there.

    Undoubtedly, the P50 Pocket dives straight into competition with the Galaxy Z Flip, and the hinge is somewhat similar, as HUAWEI explained: multi-dimensional hinge reinforced with innovative materials that fold to fit seamlessly, and unfolds without any sign of creasing, instantly transforming from pocket size to top-of-the-line full-screen smartphone.

    Huawei claims that the foldable has a proprietary hinge which enables a zero-gap design when folded. The foldable measures 7.2mm in its unfolded state, 15.2mm when folded. It comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and USB Type-C Audio support.

    It sports a 6.9-inch foldable flexible screen with a 21: 9 screen ratio, 1.07 billion colors, and P3 wide color gamut. It offers up to 120Hz screen refresh rate, and the company says that it uses innovative nano-optical film and the screen is not reflectivity to let you see clearly.

    There is support for a 300Hz touch sampling rate and 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. When completely folded, around the back is a 1.04-inch AMOLED external screen that allows you to check your notifications such as text messages, schedules, and other information.

    With the help of the secondary 1.04-inch display, you can also answer calls, take quick selfies, and perform various operations such as music control and walk navigation with one touch. Huawei calls it a “handy cover screen” which allows you to do such things.

    The P50 Pocket sports a three camera lens, a noticeable 32-megapixels Ultra Spectrum sensor, a 10-Channel Multi-Spectrum Sensor, which also offers Sunscreen Detection, a feature is able to check whether your face is properly covered up to help you better protect your skin.

    It is an Ultra Spectrum illuminator and an AF Laser. The new phone a primary 40-megapixels f/1.8 camera and a 13-megapixels f/2.2 ultra-wide camera sensor. Inside a punch-hole cutout on the top of P50 Pocket is a 10.7-megapixels f/2.2 front-facing camera sensor.

    The Huawei P50 Pocket is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G processor, it is a 5nm chipset with Adreno 660 GPU and comes in either 8GB RAM with 256GB  storage and 12GB RAM with 512GB storage. It runs HarmonyOS 2.

    In order to keep the light, it sports a 4000mAh battery with 40W HUAWEI SuperCharge wired fast charging through USB Type-C connector. This is quite bigger than the 3,300mAh capacity on the Galaxy Z Flip 3. It comes with face unlock via selfie camera.

    The Huawei P50 Pocket 8GB RAM / 256GB storage costs 8,988 yuan ($1410) for the two colors, while the P50 Pocket Premium Edition 12GB RAM / 512GB storage model set you back at 10,988 yuan ($1,725) for the Gold option. It is already available for sale in China.
