Redmi K50, Redmi K50 Pro, and Redmi K40S unveiled officially in China

    During the Redmi K50 launch event, the company also launched the Redmi K50, Redmi K50 Pro, and Redmi K40S with a 6.67″ screen display, and are all available with up to 8GB LPDDR5 RAM with 128GB storage.

    These phones are slightly different from each other, but all three phones run Android 12 with MIUI 13 and substitute the 3.5mm audio port for the USB Type-C audio, and bring Stereo Dual Speaker tuned by Dolby Atmos.

    Noticeably among the trio, it carries a 6.67″ screen size, but with a 2K (3200 x 1440 pixels) OLED screen. It comes with a contrast ratio: 5,000,000:1; Dolby Vision, HDR 10+ certified with 16,000 levels of automatic brightness adjustment, and up to 1200 nits peak brightness.

    Both phones also support a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling, up to 480Hz touch sampling rate, and are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Redmi claims these phones successfully passed DisplayMate A+ certification by achieving 16 record scores.

    These phones are measured 8.48mm thick, weigh 201gram and come in Black, Silver, Iridescent, and Green colors. On the front is a hole-punch camera hole that houses a 20-megapixels Sony IMX596 sensor, and supports video recording up to 1080p at 30fps.

    Around the rear panel is a triple camera sensor on both devices, with the only main sensor being the difference here – K50 Pro packs a 108-megapixels Samsung HM2 (1/1.52″ sensor), and the K50 with 48-megapixels Sony IMX582 (1/2-inch sensor) with OIS.

    Others include the 8-megapixels ultra-wide lens with 119° FOV, and 2-megapixels macro lens and Flicker Sensor, and support video recording up to 4K at 30fps. The connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.3 support, Wi-Fi 6 (2.4/5GHz), and Dual 5G support with up to 9bands.

    The Redmi K50 Pro is powered by up to 3.05GHz Octa-Core Dimensity 9000 4nm processor with Mali-G710 10-core GPU, and the base model is driven by MediaTek Dimensity 8100 5nm SoC with Mali-G610 6-core GPU. These use LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

    Both are available in 8GB RAM with 128GB, and 8GB / 12GB with 256GB storage, but the Pro brings an extra 12GB RAM with 512GB storage. These phones bring support for heat dissipation materials such as 7 layers of graphite, copper sheets, and thermal paste.

    The Redmi K50 and Redmi K50 Pro will be available to order from the 22nd of March in China. The starting price for the PRO version is $377 / $472 approximately for the 8GB/128GB version, and the top-end 12GB/512GB K50 Pro costs 3,999 yuan ($630).

    The Redmi K40S is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 7nm chipset with its CPUs clocking at 3x 2.42GHz and 4x 1.8GHz Hexa coupled with Adreno 650 GPU for graphic performance. It also runs MIUI 13 based on Android 12 out of the box.

    Redmi pointed out that the K40s arrives with an upgraded cooling system that offers a vapor chamber area as high as 3112mm², and the liquid-cooled heat dissipation area has been increased by 400% compared with its predecessor – Redmi K40.

    It packs a triple rear camera setup, featuring a primary f/1.79 48-megapixels 1/2″ Sony IMX582 sensor with OIS, 8-megapixels 119° ultra-wide-angle lens, and 2-megapixels f/2.4 macro camera. On the front is a 20-megapixels f/2.4 selfie camera with 0.8μm pixel size.

    The Redmi K40s is powered by a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and other feature includes USB Type-C audio, Dual speakers tuned by Dolby Atmos. It is 7.7mm thick, weighs 195g, and comes in Black, Silver, Iridescent, and Green colors options.

    It is available in 6GB / 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, and 8GB/12GB RAM with 256GB storage. It packs a 4500mAh battery with 67W fast charging compared to 33W charging in the K40, which charges the phone up to 100% in 38 minutes.

    Redmi K40s is already available in China, and the pricing starts at 1799 yuan ($283) for the 6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB costs 1999 yuan ($314), 8GB/256GB is priced at 2199 yuan ($346) and 2399 yuan ($377) for the 12GB RAM / 256GB storage option.
