Design and Display
This isn’t the first time, Sharp will be unveiling their Smartphone with a notch display. But the Sharp Aquos R2 Compact Smartphone is not just the company’s first mobile phone to come with dual notch display, but the first in the world.
The idea behind the notch design, which is almost virtually available in hundreds of Android Smartphones, is to house the selfie camera, receiver and ambient sensor. Anyways, the latest Sharp Aquos R2 Compact comes with both the water-drop or tear-drop notch at the top and iPhone trapezoid notch at the bottom.
But the setup is quite different from what we possibly knew before, the top notch houses the selfie camera only, while the bottom notch takes the fingerprint sensor scanner. The phone comes in a 5.2-inch LCD 19:9 Full HD+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and 2.5D tempered glass protection.
You can watch HD+ videos, play intensive games and enjoy the color contrast at high-level screen resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. And it is made in a pure aluminum frame design, and it is waterproof and dust-proof rated. Apart from the notch, there is no much significant specs.
The dimension is 131 × 64 × 9.3mm and it weighs just 135g. The Sharp Aquos R2 Compact arrives with slimmer bezels, smaller borders surrounding the display, the phone comes with a unique design, and it is much different from the Sharp Aquos R Compact.
Camera and connectivity
The Sharp Aquos R2 Compact was launched in Japan, at the back, you’ll find a moderate 22.6-megapixels rear camera, which high speed autofocus supports and it comes with a f/1.9 aperture, OIS, and electronic hand shake correction.
Well, for the water drop notch, it houses the daring 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture. However, the company did identify, that the selfie camera supports the face ID Unlock and it arrives with respectable handful of AI-enhancement.
Sharp Aquos R2 Compact Smartphone comes with other network and connectivity feature, which includes 4G VoLTE, GPS, GLONASS, Bluetooth v5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and USB Type-C port.
Performance and Battery
The phone is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, and it is clocked at 2.6GHz + 1.7GHz Octa-core processor. However, the phone comes with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, which is expanded up to 512GB via micro SD card slot.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by a decent 2,500mAh battery capacity, and it support fast charging via the USB-C port, which is of course, not entertaining and attractive. And it runs on Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.
The Sharp Aquos R2 Compact will launch sooner, but won’t be available for purchase this year. Starting from next year, January, it will start hitting the stores. Actually, this is the most high-end Android phone with a small screen and a modern bezel-less design.
