Finally, the world’s first smartphone with an under-display camera is now commercialized, and available for order. This is the ZTE Axon 20 5G with a 6.92-inch FHD+ OLED 90Hz display, 32MP under-screen camera, and Snapdragon 765G SoC.
However, the company is asking for 2198 yuan ($322) for the base model, 2498 yuan ($366) for the 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, and 2798 yuan ($410) for the 8GB RAM with 256GB storage version.
Over the past few years, Smartphone cameras have evolved from having the front display on a waterdrop notch to a motorized pop-up, and then the hole-punch cutout. As the front-facing cameras change, so does the quality.
The company noted that they used “high transparency material that includes new organic and inorganic films” to make the under-display 32-megapixel camera possible.
ZTE went further to explain that there is an Ultra-high-transmittance micron-level new material in the display that includes, Transparent cathode, Special OLED, and a Transparent array.
The special pixel arrangement makes the display more natural and comes with an independently driven screen display chip with a highly integrated minimalist circuit design to avoid the interference of complex circuits.
With such advanced technology, the company hopes that it will improve the effectiveness of front camera photography. The triple proactive algorithm makes the images from the 32-megapixel camera better.
Well, there isn’t much added to the phone aside from its ground-breaking unique camera features that provide a clean full-screen display. It is just a Smartphone with midrange specs that offers a 90Hz refresh rate.
However, the Axon 20 5G comes with a quad-rear camera tray, offering a primary 64-megapixel camera along with 8-megapixel 120° ultra-wide-angle camera, dual 2-megapixel depth, and macro camera.
The front camera isn’t the only feature that is hidden under the screen, the company also ensured that there is an under-screen fingerprint scanner, light sensor, and screen sound unit.
The ZTE AXON 20 5G comes in Black, Orange, Blue, and Purple colors option. Around the body of the phone are some cool elegant curves, gradient 3D glass back with a ten-layer structure stack design, vacuum optical coating process, and nano-level streamer texture.
It is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 765G 7nm EUV with Adreno 620 GPU, 6GB / 8GB LPDDR4x RAM with 128GB / 256GB storage, which is expandable up to 2TB and runs on Android 10 with MiFlavor 10.5.
It comes with support for liquid cooling, a nano-fiber thermal pad, and a graphite sheet. It ditches the 3.5mm audio port for USB Type-C audio and comes with 5G SA/ NSA, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, GPS, and NFC.
It is fueled by a 4220mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ and 30W fast charging via USB Type-C. This can charge the phone up to 60% in 30 minutes. The phone will be available for order today and will start selling in China from September 10th.
